The Norfolk village of Thurlton lies in the south of the county 14 miles south east of Norwich. It is located close to the River Yare and has the Broadland Marshes to its south. On Monday 2nd April 1832 it hosted a solitary race meeting which consisted of a Match over 4 ½ miles between Mr Charles Duppa’s bay mare and Mr John Carr’s chestnut horse. Mr Duppa came from Kent and rode his own horse, while Mr John Carr, from Beccles, used R.Warner as his jockey. The course began in a field at Wheatacre Whitehouse and proceeded to Thurlton Church, a distance of 4 ½ miles which the bay mare completed in 17 minutes. There are no records of further meetings being held in the village.
